I believe that the government should be responsible for providing some human services programs for our citizens. I do not support all of the programs that are currently provided by the government but some programs are valuable and essential. The programs that I do support are Medicare, WIC, and Social Security. I believe these programs help people who are truly in need and I feel that the taxpayers of the United States should economically provide for these programs.
As your representative, I will encourage our government to be tougher on crime and criminals. I strongly support mandatory sentencing and rehabilitation programs. Criminals need to see that our justice system will punish those who do not abide by the rules that ensure safety for all. Repeated offenders need to have harsher penalties.
I do not support capital punishment. I feel that it is morally wrong for the government, as role models for our citizens, to punish someone by death. I fear that capital punishment creates a vicious cycle in which a person kills someone and then the government kills him or her. I think the government needs to stop the killing and focus on stopping murders, not committing them.
